National Deaf Academy Board Member Gives Keynote Address at Annual CEASD Conference

MOUNT DORA, Fla. – (June 3, 2010) – Alan Hurwitz, Ph.D., National Deaf Academy (NDA) Board Member and Gallaudet University President, recently gave the keynote address at the Conference of Educational Administrators of Schools and Programs for the Deaf (CEASD), held at the Iowa School for the Deaf on April 23-26.

Outreach and relationship building were the primary themes of the conference.  Hurwitz, a long-time supporter of CEASD, challenged all schools and CEASD members to reach out and collaborate with other schools, organizations, programs, agencies and individuals who can help advance the CEASD mission, which is to promote excellence within a continuum of equitable educational opportunities for all children and adults who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing.

The conference attracted 135 participants from across the country, including NDA Preparatory School Director of Education Mary Augustyn.

During the conference, Sydney Dickerson, David Geeslin and Steve Gettel were elected to lead CEASD in 2011 as president-elect, secretary and treasurer, respectively. Dickerson is hosting the 2011 CEASD Conference in Hawaii next April.
